China Tin stops exporting indium due to low prices

JIEFU antimony trioxideLiuzhou China Tin, one of the leading indium producers in China, has stopped exporting indium due to low market prices, an official of the company told Platts on Monday.

"We haven't made an actual deal recently as we think the price is too low, and we have decided to stop selling our indium now," the official in charge of indium metal market said in an email response to a Platts query. He added that his company's indium production level is unchanged for 2007 as there is no change in the zinc production plan. The company has capacity to produce 30-40 mt/year of indium metal.

Traders in China and Japan said some traders in Hong Kong and Taiwan are offering 99.99% indium at $490/kg on a CIF basis this week. On the other hand, spot deals involving more than 1 mt of metal have been concluded in the last two weeks at levels above $580/kg on a CIF basis to South Korea. Meanwhile, a Chinese producer in Guangxi province is offering to sell at $550/kg CIF, at a level between the highest and the lowest price levels.
