As the Chinese mines in Hunan resumed the production, international consumers expect price to stabilize at the current level if not fall in the near future. U.S. market participants reported to Asian Metal that price of antimony trioxide remains at around USD2.35-2.45/lb d.d.p. in the local market.
An official from a pigment producer told Asian Metal that the latest offer of 99.5%min regular antimony trioxide he received from the American distributor late last week was at USD2.41/lb d.d.p. He believes the shortage of antimony expected earlier in July did not happen as he had no problem to get offers from the suppliers. “Availability is still good as long as there will not be any disaster in the Chinese antimony mines,” remarked by the official.
The official disclosed that he had spent more than half-year to change the antimony trioxide from a European brand to Twinkling start, and works just as well as the European material.
Commenting on the credit crisis earlier in July, the source takes that it had a small impact in the American market. “There is a general slow down on the investment as few financial groups and banks withdraw their money from the metal project.” However, he thinks the situation will recover in the next one or two months as the government is trying their best to minimize the problems.
A Chinese representative who sells his own brand of antimony trioxide revealed to Asian Metal that he is offering the material in the range of USD2.35-2.45/lb d.d.p. in the American local market. “Demand is below average,” remarked the source who cautioned American market is a little different from the European antimony market and that summer holiday season is the slowest time of the year, a time for some producers carry out regular maintenance.
Since more material will be shipped to U.S. after one month due to the reopening of the Chinese mines, the trader holds that price of antimony is likely to fall at the end of September or beginning of October.
