The Comparison Between Antimony Trioxide and Antimony Ethylene Glycol

The most application catalyst in the polyethylene condensation polymer reaction is antimony trioxide. Its general application is owing to its low price, convenient use and perfect catalytic activity. The main impurity of the antimony trioxide commonly used is arsenic and lead. The mass fraction of these impurity are all (200~300)×10-¨and is one mass level higher than the mass fraction of the arsenic and lead contained in the current Antimony Glycol. But the cost is higher than antimony trioxide. This situation limits the generalization of the antimony glycolate ,.Some overseas PET producers are looking for the catalytic antimony trioxide of low cost and low content of arsenic and lead to reach the same effect of antimony glycolate .The current industrial antimony glycolate is directly produced with the raw material of common antimony trioxide and glycol. The reaction fomular is Sb2O3+3HOCH2CH2OH =Sb (OCH CH O) +3H O。
Mix the antimony trioxide and glycol of the specific ratio and heat to solve and react. And then remove the water generated from the react. Then heat filtration, cooling, crystallization, separation and drying. And get the finished products at last. The principle of the above process is same to the deploy of antimony trioxde/ EG additive fonts in the process of PET condensation polymer. But the latter only has not the process of removing water and impurity. About the antimony, there is little difference between these two, but some producers get better effect by using antimony glycolate than antimony trioxide. The key point of the problem is the mass fraction of the impurity of arsenic and lead in the antimony glycolate is one mass level lower than the one in the common catalytic antimony trioxide. On the condition that we can directly produce the catalytic antimony trioxide contains the quite impurity contained antimony glycolate, the production cost must be much lower than the antimony glycolate and the application effect of antimony trioxide and antimony glycolate must be the same. This is the reason why we produce the catalytic antimony trioxide with low content of arsenic and lead.
