Antimony market in a low profile

Chinese antimony market has been in a low profile for a long time. Meanwhile, prices remain unchanged at the face of the weak demand.

A Guangxi-based producer said that they are in dilemma, as prices of raw materials are keeping high, while the antimony market sees downturn. “Now we have to quote about RMB36,500-36,700/t (USD4,765-4,791/t) VAT excluded for 99.65%min antimony ingot due to high production cost, but few deals were concluded,” said the source.
The source informed that it takes nearly RMB36,700-36,800 (USD4,791-4,804) to produce one ton of antimony ingot now, leaving very thin profits to antimony smelters. The smelter is running with an output of 7-8tpd for antimony ingot.

Another Guangxi-based producer confirmed the hardship in antimony market. “We have decided to stop quoting due to the sluggish market and will return to the market in June, hoping prices can increase then,” said the source.

The smelter, with an output of 100tpm for antimony ingot, has several hundred tons of stocks on hand.

Asian Metal learnt that prices for antimony trioxide are still in the range of RMB35,600-36,000 (USD4,648-4,700/t ) ex works.
