Although demand of antimony slows down a little in the European market, the price remains stable at USD5,600/t in warehouse Rotterdam or above.
A UK trader told Asian Metal that the last offer he received from another European trader was USD5,700/t in warehouse Rotterdam for the standard 99.65%min grade two antimony ingot. He was surprised to find the higher price and the Chinese suppliers did not provide him any explanations.
According to the trader, market is quiet in Europe and consumers seemed to have finished another round of purchase a week ago. “Although there are two major consumers in the market, they always could get cheap material because of the big volumes, but smaller traders like us get more expensive prices from the Chinese suppliers,” said the trader who thinks business is getting harder for small or middle-sized traders in antimony market, and there are less traders in the current market.
A German trader disclosed that the offers from Chinese suppliers are at around USD5,600/t CIF Rotterdam, and USD50/t more expensive for Rotterdam warehouse prompt release. “I do still have some stock, so I am not going to buy until my stock reduces to certain level.”
The source only received one inquiry of grade one antimony ingot this week, and the deal is under negotiation. “I do hope to sell the material at over USD5,800/t delivered to customer for the small tonnages.”
According to him, the consumers are reluctant to buy at the current price. “My customers told me that they wished the price to be lower in the future to below USD5,000/t, but I doubt if that would happen soon,” said the source believing market would remain stable until the end of this year.
