BEIJING (Asian Metal) 4 Jun 07 – Antimony market keeps softening during the week with both antimony ingot and trioxide experiencing a slight price decrease in China. Meanwhile, export market for antimony products continues to be dormant.Antimony ingot prices dip further from RMB39,000-39,500/t (USD5,098-5,163/t) ex works seen the previous week. Some consumers obtained antimony ingot with low bismuth content at around RMB38,800/t (USD5,072/t) ex works in Hunan, and some producers in Guangxi lowered offers to around RMB38,500/t (USD5,033/t) ex works. With tight availability and high-held price of antimony concentrate, many antimony ingot producers claimed that they were put into great predicament.
Antimony trioxide market also continues to be weak. Concluded prices of the material hover at RMB35,000-35,500/t (USD4,574-4,641/t) ex works with most deals closed at the lower side.
Meanwhile, export market for antimony products did not see any improvement. Some state-owned exporters reported that it is hard to conduct business due to the large gap between offers by Chinese producers and counter bids by overseas buyers. Some traders stick to quotations of USD5,400/t CIF Rotterdam, but no deals were concluded. Antimony trioxide is being offered at USD4,500-4,550/t FOB. However, the market remains flat.
